Quality Woodland Park Painter Project

It is important to note that homes such as this one in Woodland Park are highly susceptible to extreme weather conditions, and there are various stages of failure to look for on your home's exterior:

  • At Stage 1 you might see nails coming out, boards loosening, and cracks in the trim, particularly at joints and where the trim meets the siding.
  • At Stage 2 you might see peeling or faded stain, exposed siding, dry rot, and an overall failure of the siding. At this stage, the house is susceptible to damage from hail, wind, and heavy rain. When oil-based stain reaches its end of useful protection, you'll notice fading. With water-based stain, you'll see peeling.
  • At stage 3, your siding might feel squishy, there will be bending and bowing, and there may be holes allowing moisture & water to enter. This likely leads to interior water damage. With this level of failure, it's possible that an insurance claim is denied due to a failure to maintain the home's exterior properly.

Front Range Painters will work with your homeowner's insurance company if a claim is involved. Our goal is to make sure insurance adjusters don't miss damage or defects that should be covered in the claim.

In the case of this home in Woodland Park it suffered hail damage to the cabin siding as well as excessive wear and tear to the windows. We got this project back to excellent shape by:

  • Always performing a full pressure wash of the exterior before project start
  • Sanding down the sides of the garage and house that had excessive hail damage
  • Resetting nails and loose boards, where applicable
  • Scuffing the windows and applying window grade caulk. Afterwards applying a specific primer designed for metallic substrates before recoating with an upgraded pro industrial urethane alkyd from Sherwin Williams to allow for the maximum amount of protection
  • Staining the siding with a hybrid oil-based stain only available to contractors also to allow for the maximum amount of protection
  • Applying 2-3 coats of a solid stain while back brushing and rolling to provide better penetration and the maximum amount of protection

A common question we receive is how long will the stain last?

While that is a great question, it’s important to remember that a home’s protection should never exceed the recommended timeline that a stain provides, typically between 2-5 years depending on weather, color, product, and substrate conditions.
